Transplant is made entirely by local transgender artists. It started (and continues) because friends and friends of friends have fun making it.

Our story

We have never done this sort of thing before, but just doing it seems like a good way to do it. And it’s fun!

In the summer of 2023, we auditioned 65 people to find the right cast, then wrote the pilot episode. We also applied to and won a small grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. From April to June of 2024, we filmed and edited the pilot episode, then showed it for one night only in a theater, and posted it on YouTube the next day. We got a standing ovation from 300 people and a lot of positive reception in general, so we thought it would be a good idea to make some more episodes.

In the spring of 2025, we wrote more episodes and applied to be fiscally sponsored by FilmNorth. They said yes, which allowed us to apply to a larger grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, which we won and was disbursed to us in early 2026.

We began filming the next episodes in April 2026 and will continue to throughout the summer and fall. The episodes will be edited in the winter and spring, then we will show them all back to back in a theater, for free, in May 2027 (but just for one night). After the theater premiere, we’ll post them all on YouTube. Stay up to date by giving us your email (scroll down all the way) or following us on youtube or instagram.
