About Us

Transplant is a webseries set in Minneapolis that’s being written, acted and produced entirely by local trans people, in truly every single role of the show. Learn more about why this matters on our Donate page.

The project started in the spring of 2023 with a lot of why and how discussions, auditioning 65 people to find the cast before the writing, and then months of writing the pilot episode. In 2023 we also applied to a $5,000 grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) which we won and was disbursed to us in January 2024. We then began rehearsals, acting classes, pre-production planning and so much more. We filmed and edited the pilot from April to June of 2024, then screened the pilot on June 11th, 2024, and published it to YouTube the same day. The reception was extremely positive.

After the pilot was done, we took the rest of the year off, then began working on the show again in February 2025. Throughout the spring and summer of 2025, we wrote and edited the rest of the scripts for season 1 (5 more episodes in total) in partnership with the cast and writers, who came over almost every week for dinner and script reviews. In the summer we applied to be fiscally sponsored by FilmNorth and they said yes, which allowed us to apply to a larger grant of $25,000 from MRAC, which we won in December 2025 and disbursed in January 2026.

Filming begins in April 2026. At the very latest, this project must be completed by May 2027 according to grant rules. If it’s moving quicker than expected, we may show the episodes in a theater in late 2026 or early 2027. After the episodes are shown in a theater for free, we will publish them on the YouTube channel. Stay up to date with the project by following us on instagram for small updates and patreon for longer blog posts and behind-the-scenes content (all links in website footer).
